Rick Gooding is a principal of Chu + Gooding Architects in Los Angeles, focusing on projects for arts-related and institutional clients. A licensed Architect in California, he received a Master of Science in Architecture & Building Design degree from Columbia University in 1985 and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI_Arc) in 1984 where he was awarded the AIA Student Gold Medal.

Rick worked as a project architect and senior associate with Tod Williams Billie Tsien & Associates in New York from 1986 to 1990. Projects include: Feinberg Hall Dormitory and Taplin Auditorium at Princeton University, Master Planning and Schematic Design for a 500 unit Residential College and Dining Hall at the University of Virginia, Master Planning for an addition to the Phoenix Art Museum, collaborative projects with artists Mary Miss, Sol Lewitt & Dan Graham, as well as the Architecture Tomorrow Exhibit at the Walker Art Center.

From 1994 to 1997, Rick worked for Richard Meier & Partners on the J P Getty Center where he was a project architect responsible for all on-site interior coordination of the Research Institute Building, a 200,000 square foot circular research library which includes a large compact storage facility, specialty conservation laboratories, administration and scholar offices, reading rooms, book and photography shelving.

In 1998 Rick officially joined his wife Annie Chu at Chu + Gooding Architects where they have completed institutional and residential projects both locally, nationally and abroad. Among them is the Los Angeles Philharmonic Offices in the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Kentucky Museum of Art + Design in Louisville, KY, NFL Network Studios and over 20 interior projects for the J P Getty.

For more than 15 years, Rick has taught at various schools of architecture and continues to be an active member of the SCI_Arc Alumni Association.
